Love Letter To My Drum
by Oluwaseun Ogundolapo
(Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria)
I sit here to write how much I’ve missed you
If you check within me, you’ll see this is true
My heart, my beat, my love, my drum
I really don’t know where to start from
It’s been a while without you around
Like ages without your kick and snare sound
I can’t wait to hold my precious sticks
You gave me the reason to be home sick
I lost the opportunity of being with you every minute
You are my life and you know I mean it
I miss the unique sound of your Hi-hat
The way it soothes and nourishes my heart
I want to step on your soft pedal
Like I’m in a race to win a gold medal
Let’s roll like we used to
Doing the four-four and the two-two
To you I write this love letter
Maybe I’ll feel better
I’ve missed you so much
And I know you can’t wait to feel my touch
I know how much you crave for my return
I’ll be back, I have sworn
Oh my strings, my cymbals, my toms
How I miss you my precious drum.
