The Last Time
by Oluwaseun Ogundolapo
(Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria)
The last time I saw your face
It was filled with smiles
Like you would never do that again
You put it on with no worries
The last time I held your hands
You held me so tight
Like you would never let go
Yet I felt your pains
The last time I heard your voice
You said a little prayer
Like you knew tomorrow
You prophesied
The last time I said a prayer
It was for you to be here forever
Like you would stay for long
Still you left with no word
The last time I came close
You were far away
Like the sand by the seas
You were washed away
The last time I thought about you
My thoughts were deceiving me
Like you were really here
It's unfathomable that you're not here anymore
For the last time your face was seen
It was with no smile
For the last time your voice was heard
It was with no sound
For the last time your body was seen
It was going six feet beneath
And for the last time
I wave to wish you a safe journey.
